English Language DVDs with French Language Options

As many of us know only too well, the costs of buying French language DVDs and having them shipped over from France can really mount up.

Fortunately for us, another non-native Maman who is a friend of mine has done an awful lot of research into which English DVDs can be bought with a French language option (she has also helpfully noted the other available language options).

I have added this list to the DVD section of my resource page which can be accessed by the "Resource" tab at the top of this page.

Many of the DVDs on the list are far cheaper to buy (through Amazon.co.uk) than their French counterparts (through Amazon.fr) even before you discount the cost of international postage.

  1. Thanks so much for this list! I hadn't looked through your resources before, but it's a great idea! I only wish we spoke French ;) Still, this gives me a good start on some German DVDs and the idea to keep looking for more! Do you live in the US or the UK - or maybe somewhere else??? Somehow I haven't figured that out yet! Just curious, as some of the DVDs are available on Amazon.com, too!

  2. Hi Kate

Glad you found some ideas on the DVD list - good luck with your search - It's really odd but Amazon just don't seem to list out all the language options that feature on their DVDs. They are certainly missing a trick if you ask me....

BTW we are based in the UK :D

  3. A word of caution, the US versions of DVDs don't necessarily have the same language options as the UK versions. I bought a Dora DVD after reading online it had French audio but afterwards found it was only the US version that had it...

    1. Yes, I definitely find that having the French subtitles can help at times as reading is always easier than listening...one thing I have found though is that, often, there are differences between the spoken french and the French subtitles... this seems to happen quite a lot with la Maison de Mickey DVDs.... whilst I find that a little odd, it can provide an opportunity to learn an alternative way to express the same thing
